“Highlight of My Trip to Provence”
Love this place so much. Gérard is such a wonderful host. You can feel his passion in running this nicely decorated B&B in every detail. Such as the setting out of the garden, the trinklets he collected from the flea market, and the delicious breakfast he prepared in the lovely kitchen everyday. Surely we will visit again !!!
There's not much else I can say that hasn't been said already. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Charlotte in August, and after two weeks of staying in the middle of big cities, La Charlotte was a perfect break from the hustle and bustle. We loved having some space (it is only one apartment with four rooms, so you are the only guest there) and privacy for a few days, and we wished we could stay longer. Gerard's breakfasts were lovely, and they made us get up at a decent hour so we didn't waste our trip in bed. Everything about La Charlotte is perfectly picturesque from the antique french kinicknacks inside to the three levels of gardens looking out on Mt. St. Victoire outside. I would suggest bringing home a bottle of rose, some cheese (try Andre Savelli's shop in Vielle Aix) and a baguette and sitting on the terrace at sunset pretending that this is the provencal cottage you plan to buy someda y .
“Authentic experience of Provencial life!”
Staying at La Charlotte for 7 nights has definitely brought my experiencing provencial life to a new level. It also tops my rankings of staying at more than 10 B&Bs and
hotels in France for a period of two months. My mother and I truly enjoyed every moment of our stay.
First of all, La Charlotte is spacious and decorated in a most French countryside style that one would desire. It has a bedroom, a living room and a kitchen/dining room, all
nice and cozy and well equipped. You have all those to yourselves. Gerard, the super friendly and helping host who has a sense of humor, lives upstairs with his wife, a dog
and a cat (who visits us everyday). Best of all, Gerard prepares delicious breakfast every morning and did it so artistically and deliciously that this "breakfast ceremony"
soon became the best thing we most looked forward to every morning! Everyday has a different "theme".
La Charlotte also has a very spacious and lovely backyard/garden that one can relax completely. The mountain views right outside of the yard you see everyday you can find it
in many of Cezanne's paintings. Folks in Aix-en-Provence can't be more proud of this well known artist who truly loved his hometown and painted so many pieces of it.
Gerard is not just a host, but has quickly became a friend. Aside from the most comfortable home he provides, it was even more precious to get to know him as someone who has
an amazing outlook about life, his philosophy, his knowledge and suggestions about touring in the region, etc. All in all, La Charlotte has given me and my mom so much more
than we had anticipated.
“Secluded countryside, comfort and charm”
Just finished my sixth stay at La Charlotte, and looking forward to returning...it has been consistently excellent each and every time.
La Charlotte is a great combination: the freedom of a 3 room suite with kitchen, plus the services of an excellent French b&b. The suite is located on the garden
level with a private entrance and parking.
The view of Mont Sainte Victoire from the terrace is amazing and so close by. St Marc Jaumegarde is not a tourist town, it's a quiet residential enclave bordered by
national/regional forests on the north side of the mountain: one of the most exclusive addresses in the region because of its natural beauty and seclusion, yet close to the
culture and resources of Aix.
Gérard is a wonderful host who welcomes you with a smile, loves to laugh, and attends to every detail to ensure a happy visit: comfortable bed with a good mattress,
big stack of towels in the bath, nicely equipped kitchen, strong Wifi signal, up to date guidebooks and maps...even day packs to borrow for an impromptu hike in the
You pick your own breakfast time and place: outdoors on the terrace or in the pretty Provençal kitchen. There's a different presentation of fresh fruits and juice
every morning, plus fresh baked bread, yogurt, etc. For me this visit's breakfast highlight was a perfectly ripe pêche de vigne with speculoos biscuit.
Gérard takes special pride in the 3 levels of gardens he has created over the years...a nice setting to finish the day in hammock or chaise lounge, with wine or
journal, watching the sunset paint Mont Sainte Victoire a lovely shade of amber.
Fedt lille super roligt sted med en venlig vært.
Som har indrettet faciliteterne med kunsterisk
Everything about this B&B is charming. The gardens face the Sainte Victoire mountain on a narrow, out-of-the-way street, but one with easy access to a major artery into Aix-en-Provence. One does not rent a room, but a suite of rooms--a bedroom, salon, bath, and kitchen. There are lots of "very French" collections, including old shaving brushes, soap boxes, and two and three dimensional cicadas, the symbol of Provence. The owner, Gerard, is just as charming as the premises. He has a wonderful sense of humor and provides a nourishing and lovely-to-look-at breakfast. The WIFI is direct and fast.
We stayed here as a couple for 4 days in April, not quite as warm as we would have liked but we still had a fantastic time. The 'hotel' is located in a very quiet and peaceful hamlet called Les Bonfillons, which is about 10min drive out of Aix-en-provence. We hired a car at the TGV station which made getting around very easy. The accomodation has plenty of space, including private bathroom, study nook, kitchen, living area and bedroom. Everything is very clean and the kitchen is suitably equiped so that you can prepare your own meals (which is a great idea as the daily produce markets in Aix are amazing). The accomodation looks out onto Sainte Victoire mountain which is very beautiful. I think that if we had stayed in summer we would have been served breakfast out on the terrace which overlooks the gardens. And breakfast! Every morning is quite an experience at La Charlotte, the breakfast was always delicous, generous and beautfilly laid out. Our host, Gerard, was terrific. Besides serving up a great breakfast Gerard was a lovely host and was always at hand to provide assistance and advice on exploring Aix and Provence. If we are ever back in Provence, we will visit Gerard, and Les Bonfillons again!
10 jours de vacances magnifiques en famille, grâce à l'accueil très chaleureux du maître des lieux. Tout sur place était parfait !
